Sylvia Swearengin, Founder and Director of IN Latin Style Sylvia Swearengin has a talent for connecting people. Living in Austin for more than twenty years, this Texan has taken her entrepreneurial and networking skills and her passion for culture, the arts, fashion and cuisine and created IN Latin Style, a unique and diverse professional network. She is passionate about empowering entrepreneurs, artists and their businesses and determined to show the world the depth and richness of the Latino culture and people.
Sylvia knows the value of creating strong professional relationships, having been an entrepreneur herself. As the co-owner of Capital City Bicycles for twelve years, she ran all aspects of this Austin-based cycling business. During this time, Sylvia also capitalized on her passion for style, working as a personal shopper with Neiman Marcus. With an upscale clientele of both men and women from Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston as well as cities outside of Texas, Sylvia became the top sales person. This led to her working as independent shopper, only coming into the store to meet with her clients, including the architect and design maven, Cat Miller.
Well-versed in the world of fine art, Sylvia also served as the Director of Membership at Mexic-Arte in Austin, the premiere Mexican and Mexican-American fine art museum in Texas. During her tenure, she brought her signature flair to member appreciation events increasing significantly the membership base for the museum. Some of her creative event ideas included hosting a Latino Art show for local artists and organizing trips for members to art exhibits in San Antonio.
As an independent event planner, Sylvia has hosted many events including art openings, art auctions and fundraisers for great causes including the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium. She has also helped raise the visibility of many talented musicians, restaurateurs, artists and other entrepreneurs. Through her extensive professional network, Sylvia has referred people to small businesses, helped book bands, and sold art pieces. In a city known for its exquisite culinary offerings, Sylvia has hosted her events at some of the finest restaurants in Austin, as well as promoted them through catering referrals.
Sylvia is committed to raising the profile and image of the creative and trendsetting Latinos making their mark on the American social and cultural landscape, while at the same time being dedicated to diversity. Sylvia Swearengin founded IN Latin Style as an avenue for talented people of all backgrounds and ethnicities to network in a stylish, contemporary, and fabulous environment!
